Karibu indoor sauna Saja in system design for 1-2 people

This system or element sauna owes its name to the individual prefabricated wall elements that are simply plugged together during construction. The construction of these wall elements is called sandwich construction because the elements are made up of several layers.

The outer walls of the visible sides are made up of two 12.5 mm thick, breathable and moisture-balancing special Softline profiled wood panels and a 42 mm thick mineral wool insulation layer. The roof consists of a 57 mm thick special panel and mineral wool insulation. Due to a total wall thickness of 68 mm, system saunas are particularly well insulated and require a very short heat-up time. This makes them particularly energy-saving.

Basic equipment

  • Interior dimensions: The interior dimensions of this sauna with W 136 x D 181 x H 192 cm allow 1-2 people to sauna at the same time.
  • Sauna loungers: The sauna experience is particularly comfortable on 2 loungers made of solid aspen wood. The following sauna benches are included: 1 lounger, approx. 57 cm wide, 1 lounger, approx. 27 cm wide, (solid aspen wood).
  • Corner entry: It is particularly suitable for small rooms. It makes sensible use of every square meter and can be integrated into almost any room - extremely compact and space-saving.
  • Mirrorable: This sauna can be set up in a mirror image. Depending on the room characteristics, it can be positioned on the right or left.

When installing a sauna, a minimum distance of 10 cm from the walls and ceiling must be maintained to ensure good air circulation. This allows moist, warm air to escape more easily. In this context, the minimum room height and width must be observed.

Door variant

This energy-saving wooden door made of solid wood with an installation dimension of 78 x 187.1 cm and a passage dimension of 64 x 173 cm has clear, 14 mm thick insulating glazing, which is framed in the middle of the 24 x 161 cm frame. The insulating glazing ensures good thermal insulation. It also has a high-quality, clear-lacquered door handle in an elegant KARIBU design and a practical roll-top closure. The silver-colored door hinges are freely adjustable.

Sauna heater

The heart of a sauna is its oven: it breathes life into it, determines how warm it gets and what type of sauna session can be enjoyed. This 3.6 kW (16 A) classic sauna heater reaches a temperature of up to 80 °C, is delivered ready to plug in and is particularly economical to operate.

  • The entire oven, including the base plate and outer casing, is made of stainless steel
  • Internal parts made of corrosion-resistant material
  • Temperature selection from 50 – 80 °C
  • Dimensions including wall bracket (W x H x D): 31 x 46 x 46 cm

FAQ

How do I care for my sauna cabin?

1. Use a towel

We recommend that you place a towel on the bench or lounger while using it. It is best to cover the floor with a heat-resistant plastic mat or a wipeable cork floor. The towel and floor mat protect the wood from sweat, which can cause bacteria, viruses and fungi to accumulate over time. After completing the treatment, immediately remove the towel from the cabin.

2. Be sure to ventilate well

After the wellness treatment, leave the infrared sauna door open so that the sauna is well ventilated. If there is a window in the room, you should open it briefly to let fresh air in.

3. Regular cleaning

To ensure that you enjoy your sauna in the long term, it must be cleaned at regular intervals. For the seats, use a slightly damp cloth with mild soap. Then wipe with a little clear water and rub dry. You can easily clean the floor with a vacuum cleaner. Over time, stains form on the wood. You can remove these with standard sandpaper with a grit of 180 to 200.

  •  Danger: Do not use aggressive cleaning agents to clean your sauna. Abrasives and bleach attack the wood and make it unsightly over time. Also avoid using sharp, pointed or abrasive cleaning utensils.

What is the difference between system and solid wood saunas?

The difference between the two types of saunas lies in their construction. One System sauna is composed of several functional layers: The core consists of insulating wool, which in some models (not Karibu saunas) is also covered with a vapor barrier. The interior and exterior walls are clad with profiled timber. Wall elements and frames are delivered ready for assembly. Advantages: System saunas are easy to assemble, disassemble and reassemble. The heating phase is shorter. So is the waiting time.
One Solid wood sauna is made of solid wood, without insulation or vapor barrier, and is built like a log house with 40 or 38 millimeter thick wall elements or planks in a tongue-and-groove system. The Nordic spruce wood used in a solid wood sauna is both a building material and an insulating material. Advantages: Better natural heat storage capacity, optimal room climate and the moisture and heat are distributed more slowly and evenly because the wood can “breathe”.

How big should my sauna be?

Aside from the space you have available at home, your sauna should be large enough so that the tallest person in the family can stretch out comfortably on a lounger. A small increase of around 10 centimeters would be ideal.

Is there a rule of thumb for measuring the necessary oven performance?

The heater output depends on the size of the sauna. Here is a calculation example for a sauna that is two meters wide, three meters long and two meters high:

2m x 3m x 2m = 12m³

12 m³: 1.5 = 8 kW.

The Cubic meter value the sauna must by 1.5 be divided. This will give you the guideline value for the required kilowatt-Specify yours oven. Remember that a system sauna heats up faster than a solid wood sauna due to the insulation. If you have more detailed questions, please feel free to contact our customer service.

What is the difference between electric and organic combination sauna heaters and wood-fired heaters?

The Electric sauna heater has heating elements inside that are heated electrically. The sauna stones, which are layered around the heating elements, store the heat and release it into the cabin. A control regulates the temperature. Once the desired temperature is reached, the oven switches off automatically. As soon as the temperature drops, the oven starts again. The electric sauna heater is only suitable for Finnish sauna use (80–110 °C, dry).

The Organic combination sauna heater is also operated electrically. However, it also has an evaporator tray with which you can enjoy not only the hot and dry Finnish bath but also hot, moist steam baths with essential oils between 60 and 80 °C. You can use the control to set or switch on the desired temperature and the evaporation unit. Steam baths are considered comparatively gentle on the circulation and are also suitable for children.

The traditional, wood-fired sauna heater has a larger volume than the other two types of oven and is made of stainless steel. In order to operate it, you need a chimney connection and official approval from the district chimney sweep. This sauna heater is therefore rather unsuitable for the apartment, but it is a rustic and cozy alternative for an outdoor sauna with its beautiful flames and the crackling of the wood.

Which electrical connection does my dream oven need?

Depending on the number of kilowatts (kW) of the oven, a 230-volt (normal socket) or a 400 volt connection (Three-phase alternating current, higher voltage) necessary. Electric ovens in the kitchen also use three-phase alternating current – too called high current – operated.

Very important: An electrical connection may only be carried out by a qualified electrician! Not just for safety reasons - if you install the connection yourself, the warranty will automatically expire. You can find out what total output (kW) the desired oven has and what power connection it requires in the technical data table on the item details page.

In our shop you will find, among other things: also Plug & Play ovens (up to 3.6 kW)that with normal Socket operation run. Although the performance of these devices is not quite as high, they are more economical and ideal for smaller cabins.

Do I need an oven safety grille?

The oven grid is always included in the scope of delivery. It protects you from direct skin contact with the hot oven. In addition, it helps to protect the wood of the benches and walls. For ovens with an output of 4.5 to 9 kW, the minimum distance must be at least 4 cm.

Are the sauna stones included in the delivery?

The sauna stones are sometimes included in the delivery and sometimes not. You can find out more on the item details page.

Which wood is used for saunas and infrared cabins?

Nordic spruce is most commonly used because this wood has high strength and elasticity. Nordic spruces also contain less resin than their native relatives. Aspen wood is also often used indoors for loungers.

Sauna instructions for beginners!

The sauna cycle and its 3 phases

In contrast to an infrared cabin, the processes in a sauna are much more complex. Here you will find everything you need to optimally prepare and carry out your wellness treatment. The sauna session is divided into 3 phases that build on each other and complement each other. The warming phase, the cooling phase and the resting phase. If you miss a step or push yourself too hard, the recovery effect is invalid and you risk circulatory problems. You should allow 1-3 hours for the cabin to heat up.

1. The warm-up phase

To begin, you should take a quick, warm shower to remove sweat and dirt from your skin and prepare your body for the sauna temperatures. You go into the sauna unclothed, with a towel and sit or lie down on the benches of different heights, depending on your preference. The higher up you are, the higher the temperatures are.

After a few minutes, the highlight of the sauna begins for most lovers: the infusion! Here, a large amount of water is often poured onto the stones with a trowel, which drastically increases the humidity and the perceived temperature. Very often there is a sauna scent such as eucalyptus or spruce in the water. After about 10 - 15 minutes you should leave the sauna.

2. The cooling phase

After warmth comes cooling down - an important step in cooling the body back to normal temperature. In order not to overload your body and your cardiovascular system, we recommend first taking a short walk in the fresh air. Afterwards you can shower with lukewarm to cold water.

3. The rest phase

Once your body has cooled down, you first need rest and recovery. Take a good book and relax on a lounger for 20 - 30 minutes. Also make sure you drink enough water. Because your body has sweated out a lot. As soon as you are fit again and ready to go, the next sauna session begins.

Sauna session process - the individual steps of how a sauna session should proceed

With the following 11 steps nothing can stand in the way of your sauna visit.

  1. First, undress and, if necessary, go to the toilet.
  2. Clean yourself thoroughly with water to remove sweat, perfume, deodorant, etc.
  3. Dry yourself off and grab your sauna towel.
  4. Enter the sauna for about 10 to 15 minutes.
  5. Lie down and relax while sitting or lying down.
  6. Before you leave the sauna, sit upright again for a few minutes to get your body used to it.
  7. First, cool down outside - a short walk is better for the cardiovascular system than immediately jumping into a cold pool.
  8. Now you can take a cold shower, jump into a cold pool or use a hose to slowly start to cool yourself from your feet up to your heart.
  9. Take enough time to recover. 30 minutes rest period between each sauna session. Don't forget to drink.
  10. Repeat points 1-9 approx. 2-3 times.
  11. After you finish a sauna bath, drink enough fluids and eat a light meal in the form of salad or fresh fruit.
